What I use
The tools I use every day, in the spirit of /uses pages. My computers are installed and configured by my dotfiles, a set of Ansible playbooks, so I can rebuild them identically (I gave a talk about it).
Hardware
- Desktop: Intel Core i7-6700K, 16 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. Getting old, but still going.
- Screens: two 22-inch monitors, an ASUS VP228 and a Philips 224E.
- Laptop: an old Dell running Fedora.
- Phone: a Google Pixel 7.
System
- Fedora Workstation with GNOME, on all my machines.
- Terminal: ddterm, which drops down on a keyboard shortcut, with Zellij for tabs and panes, and Starship.
- Browser: Firefox.
- Passwords: KeePassXC.
- Notes: Obsidian.
- Files: kDrive by Infomaniak, hosted in Switzerland.
Development
- Editors: VS Code for personal projects, IntelliJ IDEA at work.
- Tool versions: mise, after years of asdf (talk): I made the switch and won’t go back, even though asdf remains an excellent tool.
- Secrets: SOPS, so nothing is committed in plain text (talk).
AI
To get familiar with AI agents, and to try out small developments. I usually use GitHub Copilot and/or Claude.
Homelab
A Proxmox homelab, described with OpenTofu and exposed through Pangolin.
The services running on it, nearly all behind single sign-on:
- Photos: Immich.
- Files: Nextcloud, and a copy of my kDrive on the NAS with rclone.
- Media: Jellyfin.
- Reading: FreshRSS for feeds, Karakeep for bookmarks.
- Documents: BookStack as a wiki, Stirling-PDF for PDFs.
- Home: KitchenOwl for groceries and recipes, Homebox for the home inventory, Wishlist for gift lists.
- Travel: TREK.
- Network: Blocky, the house DNS, which blocks ads and trackers.
- Monitoring: Beszel for the machines, VictoriaLogs for logs, Uptime Kuma for uptime, Speedtest Tracker for the internet line, and ntfy for notifications.
